Becoming Peak Human…
Is it possible, at 47, to reach Peak Human?
And can I teach you to do the same?
Probably not, but we can try.
By peak human, I mean how far can we take training our mind, body, and intellect given nature’s limitations of age?
What I mean by Peak Human. To become Physically, Mentally, Emotionally, and, dare I say it, Spiritually impenetrable. And using figures like Bruce Lee and The Batman as a template of achievement.
To train my body to a near Olympian level or as close as I can get to it at our age, 40+.
The Mind, to cultivate a calm, like the Stoics of old or a zen master. And my intellect, so I might use it to better get through life, start and run a business, to better read other people. Their wants and needs.
Is any of this bullshit even possible? And if it is and I’m able to reach all the above, can I teach you to do the same?
We know that higher bone and muscle density makes life in old age easier therefore retaining a level of mobility that will allow you to remain fitter, for longer, and be less susceptible to injury and illness which might help stave off the ‘four horsemen of death.’
“These are: (1) atherosclerotic disease (comprised of cardiovascular disease and cerebrovascular disease), (2) cancer, (3) neurodegenerative disease (Alzheimer’s disease being the most common), and (4) metabolic disease (a spectrum of everything from hyperinsulinemia to insulin resistance to fatty liver disease to type 2 diabetes).” - Dr. Peter Attia (Book - Outlive)
And of course the mitochondria… That thing we need. The V8’s of our cells;
“Mitochondria are membrane-bound cell organelles (mitochondrion, singular) that generate most of the chemical energy needed to power the cell's biochemical reactions. Chemical energy produced by the mitochondria is stored in a small molecule called adenosine triphosphate (ATP)” - Google.
Is this all about living longer, or living better, longer?
Apart from the health benefits, which are good, you still need purpose. When people retire, they wither. They lost their only purpose in life and now they just sit at home, sedentary, not moving unless they absolutely need to. This is the beginning of the end. From here, life goes downhill. The path of least resistance puts your body into atrophy and daytime TV does the same to your brain.
Being fitter would mean that we can move more into old age. Reading difficult subjects keeps our brains engaged.
If we keep our bodies and our minds fit and flexible for longer, we could live longer. Achieve more. Engage with grandchildren.
So, where to start?
Reading list, Philosophy. Psychology. Science. Business. Anything a little outside of your intellect level. This will keep those neurons firing.
Body: I’m going to start with Bruce Lee’s fitness program (Mon-Wed-Fri). Stretching and core work every day.
This isn’t a set-in-stone idea. This is a work in progress. To adapt it as I go. To make it as short as possible. But retain the benefits. And all of this is to be done, ideally, at home with minimal equipment.
Diet: I’ll start with a basic keto-based, though with slightly higher carbs. Again changing and adapt to my needs as I go.
Morning: Protein shake/bar.
Lunch: Main meal, Steak, Eggs, Rice or Potato.
Second Protein shake/bar
Dinner/Snack: Chicken/Fish, Rice.
Details of all of this will be given as I go.
Mistakes will be made.
Just remember that we are doing this to better ourselves. To be fitter, healthier, and mentally capable for longer.
The decline we usually suffer is long and a burden on our loved ones and ourselves. The idea is to make that decline start later and be quicker.
Yeah, that sounds weird but of the two, and these are our only choices here, which would you rather have?
