I bought a new (old) Camera.

So, lately, I haven’t been making many photos. You might notice I haven’t uploaded a new one here for a while. This is primarily due to time, lack of motivation, and things to shoot.

That last one is basically bullshit; maybe I should have said that my creative need to make photos were pushed aside due to work. But fuck it right, all you lack time, motivation and things to shoot, what should you do… well, you do what every amateur photographer does. You buy a camera.

In my case, it was a Canon New F-1, made in 1983 think. Not as indestructible as the F-1, but still heavy, smooth, and makes me feel like a pro…

The only issue I’ve had so far is the light meter, not that it’s actually needed. I mean, I have a Minolta spot meter. But having a working light meter in the camera speeds up a typically slow process. Shooting film with SLRs is slow at the best of times; I don’t need it slower. First, I bought batteries, 4LR44 or PX28a. This now means the slower shutter speeds function, and the light meter has power. But I soon realised, after being a little pissed off, that the light meter wasn’t, in fact, working, that the focusing screen was the wrong type.

You see, there is a small piece of transparent plastic inside the focusing screen, which reflects some light to the back of the focusing screen and out a tiny window set next to the light sensor. My focusing screen has neither. A quick visit to eBay and £30 later, I bought one I think should work, and hopefully, it’ll arrive this week. Until then, I have the Minolta and an app on my phone.

I can’t wait to get out again and shoot street photography once everything works.

You’d think, buy now, I could shoot better product photos.
