On this day I… Tried to Over Come FEAR.

This morning I read chapter four of ‘The Way of the Superior Man’ by David Deida. HERE

It starts;

Know your real edge. It is honourable for a man to admit his fears, resistance, and edge of practice.

But it is dishonourable for him to lie to himself or others about his real place. He should pretend he is more enlightened than he is— nor should he stop short of his real edge.

After this chapter, I felt that I needed to write this journal post, not something I usually do on Thursdays but the need was strong because it’s something that I feel a lot of people need to hear.

Whether you are a Man or not, I don’t care, the title of the book has ‘Man’ in it, but for the most part, it’s not just for Men. It’s a good way to understand Men better.

Frankly, at 194 pages, Men aren’t that complicated.

This chapter goes on about understanding your fears and knowing they are holding you back from your true potential.

Sure you might have a cushy nine-to-five job that pays well, but are you challenged by it anymore, like when you first started?

Is the feeling you had when you started when it was all new and a challenge what’s keeping you there?

Do you have friends or colleagues you don’t want to leave?

All this is resistance, fear that is holding you back from your true potential.

Do you hate Sunday evenings? Despise Monday mornings? Feel good about Wednesday afternoon? and love Friday afternoons?

Do you live for the weekend?

If you answered yes to all this, then you hate your job.

Your fear is keeping you there. Admitting that to yourself is the first step. The second one is a little harder. What would you rather be doing? Because once you figure that out you’re on your way to becoming a better, more fulfilled, You.

Don’t just let go of the fear embrace it. Hold it close, and approach your Edge.

It’s a hard path to tread, but then if it were easy, you’d already be on it.

If you’re having trouble finding your “true calling,” start with this;

  • What do you think about at work when you’re bored?

  • What do you talk passionately about with friends?

  • What do you love doing on weekends?

  • What kind of social media drop kicks you into a k-hole of doom scrolling?

If you can answer these honestly, you have a starting point. Now learn all you can about them. Solves problems around them. Sell the solutions.

become your own boss.
