On this day I…
Last week I started uploading videos to YouTube. It’s been a long time coming. I would plan a video and then not shoot it because I couldn’t figure out the style I wanted to shoot it in.
I started with last week’s Journal vlog. With that, I did a voice-over and just filmed a bunch of random shit to show while I spoke, out of character, into a microphone. I hate that voiceover.
And it’s not in the way we hate our voices when heard played back, it’s just not me. I don’t talk like that.
When It was done I quickly realised I didn’t sound like myself. I was playing up to the mic.
In the second video, I did a vlog, the way I used to do it back in the day. But I used different cameras, a Fuji X-T4, a GoPro Hero 10 and my iPhone. Each gave a different look and feel which I didn’t like, at all. And the audio was terrible.
I uploaded them simply because I’d made them and the point was to get shit online. I also through up some YouTube shorts. They’ve done pretty well.
This time, I wanted to be a little more, Me.
The first part of this week’s Journal video (see below), I shot in one take, next to my window with a static camera. It was terrible and frankly, it took me about 0.68 seconds to decide to reshoot it. This time I broke it up into three parts and did something else unrelated to the content I was talking about while recording it. Three different shots. first and last hand-held the second, static, but this time I wasn’t, I was doing that thing.
Better. I liked it.
But still played up to the camera a little. I’m okay with it. It kinda works and this time, I actually sound like me.
The second part, yesterday’s journal entry, Was a quick, static one-shot. This time however I tried to entertain the audience by climbing out a window, saying my line (just one) and then climbing back in.
The point here was to shoot two, slightly different takes, one quick where I say my line and the second where I elaborate a little more before climbing back in.
The audio, again was shite so I did it all again. Which as it turned out, was a good thing because an unplanned element of comedy happened in that second go-round.
So, cool editing to keep people entertained throughout the video, hopefully keeping them watching for what happens next, and a cool soundtrack created by a newly discovered AI website Suno.com (so much fun to be had) gave me that little extra something.
So far, I’m happy with this video. However, I need to shoot the last part. I need to shoot the part that comes with this post…
You’ll know if I succeeded below.
