On this day I…
“You and I are not born as Tubula Rosa-Blank Slates. We are not free to become anyone we want to be. Rather, our task is to become who we already are.” - Steven Pressfield.
So the above quote hit me today. He was referring to a line from his book The Legend of Bagger Vance and a golf swing. Saying that the swing is in there, like the statue of David, you just need to chip away the rough parts.
Maybe that’s how we should look at ourselves. Instead of trying to be like other people, we should try to chip away at the very core of who we are. To find ourselves buried under the rough marble that surrounds us.
How do we do that?
If I know that I’d be rich, but no I’m here trying to figure it out like the rest of you. If I knew, I’d package that shit up and sell it. But no.
The best I can do is say this, be true to who you are. That can be taken in many ways. maybe I should have said that You should be the could of person you want to be.
Think about that for a second, what kind of person do you wish you were?
Write it down but don’t overcomplicate it. And remember this quote from Marcus Aurelius;
“You could leave life right now. Let that determine what you do and say and think.”
How do you want to be remembered?
That is who you want to be. Write it down and make it happen, don’t wish on it. DO IT!
No one else is responsible for who you are or who you could be. No one is stopping you. To blame others for not achieving your goals in life is nothing more than an excuse, a way of removing the responsibility from your own hands and putting it on someone else. Someone you can tell yourself, and others, is at fault.
“I didn’t achieve because of you.”
It’s a cop-out, and you know it.
Take control of YOUR life. You’re the only one holding you back.
Life is hard. But then a good life isn’t supposed to be easy. If it were what would be the point? Challenges are what define us, make us stronger, and build character.
Be true to yourself. Be who you truly are.
