On this day I…
I extended my walk today.
What would normally be a 1.89-mile walk turned into a 2.37-mile walk—30 minutes turned into 40 minutes.
For about 90% of this walk, I breathed through my nose. Making sure that on the harder, uphill, parts I was breathing slow and steady. Not once did I pant or suffer from lack of oxygen.
On Saturday I finished reading ‘Breath’ by James Nestor. In this book, he details a few “experiments” with athletes. Someone trained them to breathe exclusively through their noses while training and during competition. These athletes went on to win gold medals. And reported not feeling the excursion they once did.
My usual walk of 1.89 miles in 30 minutes, started to feel too easy, this is why I extended it today. Then I realised that the last few walks, I had been breathing through my nose most, if not all, of the time.
Knowing that I was going to extend the walk I decided that I would endeavour to breathe only through the nose (didn’t quite do that) for the entire walk.
After, I felt fine, less stressed in the muscles and no lightness of the head when I finished.
Maybe Nestor and all the people he wrote about are on to something?

I’m guessing that my workout today was pretty tough because the focal point of my eyesight has become a blind spot. This happens sometimes.
Makes it hard to type though. I can’t “see” the button I want to press so I rely on muscle memory and my peripheral vision.
